Plant-Based diets can lower cholesterol from 15 to 30% which is usually sufficient so that most people can either avoid going on cholesterol medication or come off if they’ve already started.

Average lipid levels of people on Plant-Based diets are much lower than most American’s.

Average cholesterol level in the United States among omnivores: 210

Average cholesterol level of U.S. vegetarians (still consuming dairy products): 161

Average cholesterol level of U.S. vegans: 133

(Adapted from John Robbins’ book, The Food Revolution)

If your total cholesterol level is 275, then a 30% reduction would lower your cholesterol by 82 points; that’s enough to get you under 200--the level at which many American physicians start treatment.
